you know what sucks>!?

When stuff gets broken into.
When that "stuff" is your house.
When the way they got into your "stuff", was through your bedroom window.
you know what sucks>!?
When stuff gets stolen.
When a laptop containing a good portion of your life gets stolen.
When you realize as time goes on that more and more stuff was stolen than you originally thought.
When the stuff like your wallet, with social security number, is included in the taking.
When you now have to worry about identity theft.

You know what's funny, when they steal your STUPID HEADSHOTS. The last 50 I had. Now, they were next to the computer bag, so they didn't go straight for them, but still...

Here's the list so far. If you jerks who stole my computer happen to read this, I hope you're happy. The "stuff" itself is just stuff. Have at it, but for the sentimental stuff... You will get karmically served.

Just stuff: IPod, Playstation 2, Laptop, digital camera (replacement for the stolen one in NYC), computer bag, wallet, cash, some PS2 games, red suitcase, credit cards, deposit slips, jewelry, I'm sure more stuff that I don't yet know about... and some of the room-dawgs stuff, his PS2, some games and cash, and I'm sure more stuff that he doesn't yet know about. "They" didn't go upstairs.

The karma that will serve you: not all, but most, of my original songs and lyrics that I don't have any other copies of (this includes recordings that I did, chords, etc), all of my digital pictures that arent's on flickr (I now thank GOD for Flickr), an expensive necklace that my Dad bought for me, not all, but most, of my original songs and lyrics that I don't have any other copies of... I listed that twice on purpose. It may be the worst of the loses. It's my fault for not backing up my computer EVER. Let this be a lesson. Don't forget to BACK THAT THING UP!

E = E

When Einstein meets Elvis we all win. This is my improv team Einstein meets Elvis. We love turkey legs and only turkey legs. The rest of the turkey we give out to other improv teams or audience members. Whoever will take the nasty parts of the turkey. But don't touch the turkey legs!

Come to our show Saturday at the Relapse Theatre. 9:30pm. Especially if you want some nasty turkey parts. If you ever eat a turkey leg, don't eat it like Brad. He holds it funny and stares at it for long periods of time before eating it. It makes everyone, including him, uncomfortable. Go to JaCKPie for more show info, go here for more Brad info.

Something old on something new

Well, we did this little video-sketch gem (read: me running in slow motion) before youtube was around. I guess maybe a year and a half ago, maybe two. Maybe more. I don't know. One of my NYC buddies, Jovbey or Joe, decided to throw it up on that piece for funsies. There have been similar 'spoofs', but when we originally did it, the theme wasn't over-done or 'outdated'. You'll get the idea. Check it out. Oh, and I'm the blonde. That IS my natural hair color. Which will be my hair color again soon. Blondes DO have more fun.

hip-hop(eful)

So, you guys who know me, know I have a varying taste in cinema. I have my fav's being Wes Anderson stuff, Eternal Sunshine, She's So lovely, etc. Horror movies, though I can't watch them alone. Mostly really dark comedies or just plain dark is what I really love. Then I have the other side of taste, which I know are crappy and just for pure entertainment and glitz. If there is dancing in the movie, I will pretty much see it. And talk about how good or bad the dancing is/was afterward. I am entitled to my opinions. I have strong opinions about dancing movies. So I am, of course, excited about Step Up. Yes, it is a Save the Last Dance/8 Mile mash-up. Going to see it with Bode on opening night. We will, of course, be having crack margaritas at El Azteca later that evening. So some of you can expect some drunk dialing from us, which usually includes some singing.

Yes, I am also going to opening night of Rocky Balboa, it may be terrible. But I can't wait to see it. Hopefully, there's no dancing in it.

But what I'm really excited about... is ... Idlewild. Starring: Andre' Benjamin and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton (yes, Outkast), Ben Vereen (yes, of Benson), Cicely Tyson, Terrance Howard, Bruce Bruce, Ving Rhames, Patty LaBelle and others. I don't foresee anyway this one will disappoint. At the very least, Outkast does nothing unless they commit to it 120.

trips and weddings and such

the trip has been great so far, other than the camera thing. but my good friend Yoshi loaned me a camera for the remainder of the trip. super cool! i stayed in williamsberg/brooklyn over the weekend with Cameron and Traci. saw a band, played and recorded some music... but most of the time spent, we played Burn Out Revenge. i love it so. i did go on a bit of a bender over the weekend. just two hours of sleep between friday and sunday early morning. so nice.

the fourth is pretty cool up here because of all the awesome fireworks. which in new york, if you shoot your own or they are found in your car, is now a felony! no longer a misdemeanor. that is some b.s. the fourth is also dan's birthday. we grilled out in the afternoon, threw frisbee, did the the mentos in a 2 liter of diet coke experiment and then went to the top of dan berman's building to watch fireworks at night. we trotted up nine flights of stairs. we saw the macy's fireworks and had a little view of long island as well. we had a guitar and sang songs, no not patriotic songs. songs like radiohead, beattles, etc. that was swell. although, leave it to danny b. to leave, unbeknownst to everyone, and come back up to the roof with a small boombox playing this song. it was comical. other than that, just hanging with the DB today. we had bagles and coffee this morning and have been watching the Muppet Show and bad tv all day. good times!

this week gets wedding-o-rama starting tomorrow. but it will be a blast!

sweeping the nation

Check out Project Improviser. Brought to you by the UCB Theatre. There are episodes, so it's not a quick view. But a fun view.

Going to a channel 102 screening tonight with Lennon. She is in one of the pieces they're showing tonight. Should be super cool! The bachelorette party was crazy fun. My digital camera got stolen. Cops were called. We had a grand time at a friends house with a fake stripper dressed as the "Dragon Fly" and a really great alcoholic concoction I had never had before. We had 'one drink' once we arrived to our final destination, the Royale in Brooklyn... and the rest of the night it was all shots. Needless to say, most of yesterday was a write-off. Although, a good one. I did have some killer Thai last night with Traci Redmond and Matt Stallworth (CRU alumni) and Matt's fiance Alicia (former CRU volunteer and wonderful writer/poet). It was a lovely evening full stories and weird coincidence. Oh yeah, back up a minute, my flight was cancelled on Saturday morning. I was put on a flight through Columbus. I fought that and they put me on a later non-stop flight. Then moved me to an earlier non-stop that they could have put me on in the first place. They lost my luggage. Then it arrived from Columbus, OH. And it was pooring rain when I got into NYC. But I had lunch at the only Arby's in NYC with Dan Berman and Lennon. Did I mention my digital camera, with all of the bachelorette pics, was stolen!?

It's all downhill from here.

What Comes Around Goes Around

Doing some improv. Some old improv buddies. Some completely new faces. Some people I thought for sure I'd never work with again. I'm getting older because I realize it's kind of nice when things come full circle and the universe seems to tie them up in a neat little package. I'm very happy playing here and very happy with the work. It's organic and lovely. I am a part of the house team The Orphanage. One big family, playing every Saturday night at Relapse Theatre. Out of the Orphanage come other smaller groupings to create different shows, formats, etc. It is part of JaCKPie but the space is Relapse.

Come to this next show if you get a chance. I have comps.

May, 6 2006 at Relapse Theatre/JaCKPie Theatre Workshop
380 14th Street, Atlanta , GA 30318
Cost: $5

IMPROV: All in one night... I play in all 3 formats. Showtime 8pm to 10pm. It's good improv.

Meet X - performed by members of the Orphanage Climb into the lives of 5 characters and their interweaving destinies. Ever passed someone in a supermarket and wondered about what their life must be like? Is the guy pumping gas next to you a businessman or a hit man?

The Harold - performed by the Orphanage Created by Del Close and Charna Halpern of IO (formerly Improv Olympic) in Chicago.

America - Chris Nik, Mike Brune, Jen Caldwell and Jim Karwish. It can only happen here!

words

Don't have a lot to say right now. That's why I haven't been blogging. But I will, oh you just wait. I will. And that's all I have to say about that.

support hose

A recent music video I shot last weekend is now up. The song "Wasted Ones" by Variac. It was a blast to do. Working with quite the great group of peeps. If you see the name "Magic" referred to in the comments, they are talking about me as that nickname was given to me by Yoshi back in November. Check it!!!

maybe or not

Malkovich Sundance Film. And better yet, one of my very favorite actors, Jim Broadbent is also in it. Looks to be a great cast and a promising story. Hopefully, it will meet and/or exceed my expectations! And yours... I wonder if Clunky and Koby will like it!? hmmmm.

Hiatus over

Things were crazy for a minute getting ready for the Anna NicoleMiner's Daughter show. It was a fun, fun time. It was the most 'myself' I've ever been on-stage, playing music. I felt completely comfortable. The audience was the best part. A lot of my great friends were there and that was surreal and quite an amazing site to play to those faces. There was such a great energy in the crowd spilling up to the stage and over us. There were a few small mistakes.

Gotta love live music. My bass was out of tune on one of our better songs and I couldn't get it back in. But, I now know that after my bro plays his crazy awesome bass part on "I'm Wearing an Orange Tank Top" and I take it back to play on "Garden"... tune, tune, tune it! We have work to do to get tighter and hit the nuiance of certain songs, also completing some more new stuff. But I feel good about where we're at right now. I think we are going into the studio for the first time this Saturday or Sunday. Bubbling with joy! We have been invited to play at 2 clubs in New Orleans, and we are pretty excited about that. Other than the obvious... Freddie and Fran both lived there and have a ton of friends from there, still there.

Here is a great gift I give as a welcome back from me to you... Black People Love Us!

more music...

Well, our first big show is just around the corner. I've been so busy/focused on the music, I haven't had time for much else. I was pretty uptight about the show and the music, but we have been practicing, writing and rewriting like crazy. And last night things really began to click. With my influences being mainly the Pixies, Radiohead and Neutral Milk... and the boys influences being mainly Pantera and the like, I find it interesting to listen to our new creations at this point. I can hear the influence. Definitely in the lyrics b/c 5 of the songs are all the same theme or concept (no album here...yet) and the other two songs not so much. The concept is centered around the Great Gatsby. I really enjoy that they are not complete. I like the fact that when we play them, most are still works in progress. And although I can hear the influence of my favorite bands, we sound nothing like them. At least, I don't think we do. At this point, I (along with the band-mates) are the only people who have heard the new music. I'm interested to hear what others hear/think. It's also kind of cool that I am not 'in love' with any of the songs yet. Maybe I am just a point where I'm okay with that fact, but in the past, I would have been very frustrated that I wasn't in love with them. I see more and more that making music is a relationship. It takes work and a lot of attention. And if you keep working on it, you may eventually fall in love with it. You love some. You are in love with some. Some you never want to hear again. Some you cry over. Some get you through hard times. Some get stuck in your head. Some you take baths with. Some you just use for sexxx. And so on.

hardly ... containing ... excitement

Meeting/rehearsing with a trumpet player. Wow! It'll be a long process of writing. I have over 75 incomplete songs that are unfinished. I, typically, start writing a song and don't finish it because I hear other instruments, and don't have access to those other instruments. It's kind of bizarre to me that, in going through my personal music library, I find I have very few complete acoustic songs. Very few complete songs at all, really. It's because of the reason I described, more instruments. When writing, I rarely just hear an acoustic guitar. Or just guitar, drums and bass. I hear violin, piano, sax, trumpet. Or I hear some other odd sound, beatbox, etc to layer in. So, I am very excited about my recent musical process. I have written to completion two new acoustic songs in the past two weeks. A new thing for me to write from start to finish in that short a time. Having more access to other musicians happened organically and opened up a whole new creative process for me.

On the band note, songs have new life and new structure. I brought 2 other incomplete songs to the band. Both around four to five years old and I haven't played either of them in probably 3 years. We rehearsed them last night and they are now nearly complete. Super cool!

On another musical note, I've been doing some song-writing with my girl, Lauren. LaLa has some songs complete with lyrics and melody, but she wanted some guitar. So we worked on 2 of her songs on Monday. I have a couple of songs complete with music and some melody, but no or incomplete lyrics. So, tonight we are meeting to work on one of my songs. I love collaborating with her.

I am very lucky to be able to play, write and sing music in this life. Very lucky!
